B737NG - PNEUMATIC SYSTEM

*Bleed air generated on the 5th and 9th Stage of Engine compressor(or by APU or Ground) used for

Pressurization/Air conditioning

Anti-icing

Engine Starting

HYD resorvoir pressurizing

etc.


*3 Bleed valves are electrically controlled pneumatically operated. 

means when the Bleed air switch is ON, actual Bleed air valve will not operated without pneumatic pressure(Bleed Air) from engine.

So, normal procedure is leaving 2 Engine Bleed air valves OPEN position always (automatically closed after engine shuts down.)



Bleed air or Pneumatic panel located on FWD OVERHEAD panel. temp. control also available here.



*Bleed air and Pack switch panel almost same with schematic of Pneumatic system.

*3 Bleed switch, (Eng no.1, APU, Eng no.2) located bottom of the picture.

*Left Pack, Isolation valve, Right Pack located upper side

*Turning on each Engine or APU enables bleed air to open bleed air shut off valve.


*PACK Switch -

OFF - Closes PACK VALVE

AUTO - Opens PACK VALVE when the bleed air pressure exist

HIGH - Operates PACK to HIGH Flow

*AUTO Position - Normally in flight, PACKs Operate in LOW FLOW mode. but,Only One PACK Operating with Flaps up in flight will provide HIGH FLOW


*ISOLATION VALVE Switch -

OPEN - Opens ISOLATION VALVE

AUTO - Opens ISOLATION VALVE when the one of four switches(PACK, ENGINE BLEED Switches) turn to OFF position. 

CLOSE - Closes ISOLATION VALVE


*PACK TRIP OFF light illuminated when PACK system exceeded limit temperature.

*WING BODY OVERHEAT light illuminated when certain censors detect leaking in the bleed duct.

LEFT Sensors - Engine Strut, Leading Edge of Wing, Air Conditioning Bay, Keel beam, APU Bleed air Duct

RIGHT Sensors - Engine Strut, Leading Edge of Wing, Air Conditioning Bay

*BLEED TRIP OFF light - Excessive Bleed air pressure or temperature on the respective duct


*TRIP RESET Switch - Reset

PACK TRIP OFF light

BLEED TRIP OFF light

and opens Bleed Valve and PACK valve


*Pneumatic leak on the 9th stage would cause fire detection be activated. (Make sure OVERHEAT light before discharge bottle!)


*APU Bleed air should be used after 60sec. of APU Start. and Shutdown needed for 60 sec. as well
